U.S. Central Command stated that three missiles launched by the Sana’a government forces, also referred to as the “Houthis,” in the past 24 hours towards the Gulf of Aden “hit two commercial ships, causing some material damage, but the ships continued sailing.”
In a post on the X platform on Sunday evening, the command clarified that one of the ships flies the Liberian flag and is owned and operated by Switzerland, while the other is owned and managed by Germany. The post noted that they destroyed three other missiles and a drone launched by the “Houthis” towards the Gulf of Aden and also destroyed a missile launch platform in Yemen.

In contrast, the spokesperson for the Sana’a government forces, Yahya Saree, announced on Sunday that a military operation had been carried out with several ballistic missiles in the Red Sea, targeting the British destroyer “Diamond.”
Saree also revealed in a statement that two ships were attacked in the Arabian Sea, claiming that they “violated the entry ban to the ports of occupied Palestine.”
The British Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), affiliated with the British navy, said on Sunday that it had received reports of a ship being hit by an unidentified projectile in the rear, causing a fire 70 nautical miles southwest of Aden.
The agency added in a statement that “damage containment operations are underway, and the ship’s captain has not reported any injuries. The ship is heading to the next port.”
Meanwhile, media sources reported that U.S. and British forces carried out three airstrikes on the Al-Jabana area west of Hodeidah on Yemen’s western coast.
These developments come after Israeli occupation forces killed 274 Palestinians and injured approximately 698 others, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, during an operation on Saturday to retrieve four Israeli prisoners from the resistance in the Nuseirat camp in central Gaza.
Since late last year, the Sana’a government forces have been announcing strikes on Israeli targets in the occupied Palestinian territories and targeting Israeli and related ships in the Red and Arabian Seas before declaring the extension of their operations to parts of the Indian Ocean. Recently, they announced the beginning of the fourth phase of escalation against ships “up to the Mediterranean” in support of Palestinians in Gaza. They affirm that their operations against “Israel” will continue, demanding an “end to the aggression and lifting of the siege on Gaza” to halt their military operations “in support of Gaza.”
In response, the U.S. and the UK launched airstrikes on Yemen, prompting the Sana’a government forces to declare that their operations would include targeting U.S. and British commercial and military ships in response to what they termed the “American-British aggression.”
On February 19, 2024, the European Union announced the launch of a military operation named “Aspis,” led by Italy in the Red Sea, while the United States announced the launch of an operation named “Guardian of Prosperity,” both aiming to counter the attacks launched by the Sana’a government forces against “Israel.”
