A senior official in the Sana’a government called on the United States today, Tuesday, to “end the militarization of the Red Sea,” considering it beneficial for international navigation.
This was stated by the Deputy Foreign Minister in the Sana’a government, Hussein Al-Ezzi, in a post on his account on the platform X (formerly Twitter).
Al-Ezzi said: “The American frigates have left the Red Sea except for one, and it is important that it leaves as soon as possible.”
He added that: “Ending the militarization of the sea is beneficial for international navigation, and we have emphasized this since the beginning of the conflict.”
He concluded by saying: “Sana’a will remain the primary guarantor of navigation safety, and what it is doing is a duty dictated by its faith and humanity until the genocide in Gaza stops,” as he put it.
الفرقاطات الأمريكية غادرت البحرالأحمر عدا واحدة فقط ومن المهم أن تغادر هي الأخرى بأسرع وقت

In a subsequent post, he indicated that the departure of the American frigates “might be for maintenance, but their return would be a grave mistake as they would face more than they did before and might not be able to undergo maintenance again.” He stated that: “The entire solution lies in ending the aggression, the blockade, and the genocidal crimes against our oppressed people in Gaza. This is the only way to resolve the crisis in the four seas (the Red, Arabian, Indian, and Mediterranean Seas).”

Since late last year, Sana’a government forces have begun targeting Israeli ships and those associated with them in the Red and Arabian Seas, before announcing the extension of their operations to parts of the Indian Ocean. Recently, they announced the commencement of the fourth phase of escalation against ships “up to the Mediterranean Sea” to support Palestinians in Gaza. They state that their operations against “Israel” will continue until the latter stops its genocide in Gaza and lifts the blockade.
In response, the United States and Britain launched airstrikes on Yemen, prompting Sana’a government forces to announce that their operations will include targeting American and British commercial and military ships in response to what they called the “American-British aggression.”
On February 19, 2024, the European Union announced the launch of a military operation named “Aspis,” led by Italy in the Red Sea, while the United States announced the launch of an operation named “Guardian of Prosperity,” both aimed at countering the attacks launched by Sana’a government forces against “Israel.”
