Sana’a Forces Announce Targeting of Two U.S. Destroyers in the Red Sea and a Ship in the Gulf of Aden

NYN | News

Today, Wednesday, the Sana’a government forces announced that they had targeted two U.S. destroyers and a ship in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

In a televised statement, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, the spokesperson for the Sana’a government forces, said: “In support of the Palestinian people’s struggle and in response to the American-British aggression on Yemen, the Yemeni armed forces carried out a joint military operation. The missile forces, the air force, and the navy targeted the ship ‘Contship Ono’ in the Red Sea with several ballistic missiles and drones, and the strike was precise.”

He added that “the targeting of the ship was due to its owner’s violation of the ban on entering ports in occupied Palestine.”

Saree also stated that the air force carried out a significant military operation against the U.S. destroyer “USS Cole” in the Gulf of Aden using several drones.

Additionally, the naval forces executed a special military operation against the U.S. destroyer “USS Laboon” with several ballistic missiles.

He noted that the targeting of the two U.S. destroyers occurred as they passed through the Yemeni armed forces’ operational area towards the northern Red Sea, as part of U.S. military protection for Israel.

According to Saree, the operations resulted in the destroyers’ failure to fully intercept the missiles and drones, with some successfully hitting their targets.

He affirmed that the Yemeni armed forces consider all U.S. military movements in the naval operational area as hostile actions in support of Israel and will not hesitate to target them using all available means.

In his televised statement, Saree called on all Arab and Islamic nations to stand with Palestine, Gaza, and Ismail Haniyeh by actively opposing U.S. military movements and rejecting all forms of support for Israel.

He concluded by emphasizing that the Yemeni armed forces’ operations in the “Promised Victory and Sacred Jihad” battle will continue until the aggression stops and the siege on the Palestinian people in Gaza is lifted.

Since late last year, the Sana’a government forces have begun striking Israeli targets in the occupied Palestinian territories and targeting Israeli-linked ships in the Red and Arabian Seas before extending their operations to parts of the Indian Ocean. Recently, they announced the beginning of the fourth phase of escalation against ships “even into the Mediterranean” to support Palestinians in Gaza. They assert that their operations against “Israel” will continue, demanding the “end of the aggression and lifting of the siege on Gaza” as conditions for halting their military actions “in support of Gaza.”

In response, the U.S. and Britain have launched airstrikes on Yemen, prompting the Sana’a government forces to declare that their operations would include targeting American and British commercial and military vessels in retaliation for what they called “American-British aggression.”

On February 19, 2024, the European Union announced the launch of a military operation named “Aspis,” led by Italy in the Red Sea, while the United States announced the launch of an operation named “Guardian of Prosperity,” both aimed at countering the attacks by Sana’a government forces against “Israel.”
