Sana’a government forces announced on Monday evening that they had carried out a significant military operation targeting the oil tanker “Blue Lagoon 1” in the Red Sea using several missiles and drones, confirming a direct hit.
In a televised statement, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, the spokesperson for the Sana’a forces, said: “In victory for the oppressed Palestinian people and its fighters, the Yemeni Armed Forces carried out a significant military operation targeting the ship ‘BLUE LAGOON I’ in the Red Sea with several missiles and drones, and it was hit directly, thanks be to God.”
He noted that “the targeting of the ship came after its owning company violated the decision to ban entry into the ports of occupied Palestine,” explaining that “the operation was jointly executed by the missile force, the naval forces, and the drone air force.”
Saree added: “The Yemeni Armed Forces reiterate their warnings to all companies dealing with the Israeli enemy that their ships will be targeted during their passage through the declared maritime operational zone, regardless of their destination.”
Brigadier General Saree concluded the statement by affirming that “the operations of the Yemeni Armed Forces will continue in support of the oppressed Palestinian people and its brave resistance until the aggression stops and the siege on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip is lifted.”
Earlier on Monday, the British Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported receiving a report about an incident 70 nautical miles northwest of Al-Salif in Yemen.
The UKMTO mentioned that “the captain reported that the ship was hit by two unidentified projectiles, causing damage on board, with a third explosion occurring near the ship.”
According to Reuters, the targeted ship is a Panamanian-flagged oil tanker, and the U.S. Navy’s Combined Maritime Forces confirmed that the ship’s name is “Blue Lagoon 1.” Reuters, citing the British maritime security company Ambrey, reported that “military sources confirmed that the tanker was attacked by missiles.”
Ambrey speculated that “the ship was targeted because it is owned by a company linked to Israeli ports,” according to Reuters. Maritime data shows that the “Blue Lagoon 1” is a large crude oil tanker measuring 278 meters in length and 46 meters in width, operated by Sea Trade Marine based in Greece.
