On Monday evening, the media affiliated with the military forces of the Sana’a government broadcast footage showing the moment an American MQ-9 drone was shot down over Saada province.
The footage captured the moment a surface-to-air missile was launched toward the American drone, striking it accurately in midair, causing the aircraft to catch fire as it descended.
The clips also showed the wreckage of the drone scattered on the ground, burned to scrap metal after being consumed by the flames.
The U.S. military confirmed the loss of one of its MQ-9 drones but provided no further details about the incident.
Earlier, the Sana’a government forces announced on Monday that they had downed another American MQ-9 drone over Saada, marking the eleventh drone of its kind shot down since they joined the battle in support of Gaza.
In a televised statement, the military spokesperson for the Sana’a forces, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, confirmed that “the Yemeni armed forces’ air defenses successfully shot down an American MQ-9 drone while it was carrying out hostile operations in the skies of Saada.”
Saree explained that “this is the eleventh drone of this type that our air defenses have successfully shot down during this battle.”
He also mentioned that “the Israeli enemy, with American support, carried out 17 airstrikes on several civilian facilities in Hodeidah, including the port and the power station, resulting in the martyrdom of 5 citizens and the injury of 57 others.”
Saree emphasized that “this criminal aggression will not deter the Yemeni people, through their armed forces, from fulfilling their religious, humanitarian, and moral duty toward the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples.”
He stressed that “the Israeli aggression on Hodeidah will be met with an escalation of military operations against this criminal enemy in the coming period.”
