Houthi Sparks Battle Between the U.S. and Russia at the Security Council: A Fiery Session!

NYN | News

In a dramatic session at the Security Council, Washington solidified its policy of direct intervention in the affairs of states by announcing its plans to “undermine” the Houthi group (Ansar Allah) unilaterally, ignoring Russia’s warnings about the humanitarian consequences of designating the group as a “terrorist” organization, which would exacerbate Yemen’s already deteriorating conditions.
The U.S. Ambassador to the Security Council stated that the U.S. would adopt a strict strategy to dry up the sources of funding for the Houthis (Ansar Allah), accusing them of exploiting the local economy in illegal ways, such as imposing levies on merchants and forcing them to invest in financial networks that serve their interests.
Expressing American dissatisfaction with the Houthis’ support for Gaza, the U.S. envoy pointed out that this was part of fueling regional conflicts under false pretexts, such as supporting the Palestinian cause.
For his part, the Russian envoy considered the designation of the Houthis as a terrorist organization to reflect Washington’s unilateral policy of imposing its agenda without regard for humanitarian consequences.
He stressed that the situation in Yemen was worsening, with rising prices and a worsening economic crisis, emphasizing that U.S. actions would hinder the work of relief organizations and lead to further logistical and financial complications for humanitarian missions.
The Russian envoy also urged the U.S. to reconsider its position, warning that such policies would only lead to further escalation in the region.
This session reflects the continuation of the U.S. approach of intervening in the affairs of other nations, as Washington seeks to impose its political and economic vision under the guise of fighting terrorism, regardless of the collateral damage these decisions may cause to the people.
