The Red Sea continues to claim the lives of migrants on perilous journeys towards the Yemeni coast, amidst increasing humanitarian tragedies on this deadly maritime route.
The International Organization for Migration announced the loss of 186 African migrants after four boats capsized while attempting to cross the sea off the coasts of Yemen and Djibouti.
The organization explained in a post on the “X” platform that it is verifying deeply concerning reports about the incident, noting that 558 migrants have died on this maritime route in 2024 alone.
The organization has called for urgent action to protect migrants and save lives, given the continuing risks facing those who take this dangerous path in search of better opportunities.
