Unprecedented UN Warning: Situation in Yemen Is Out of Control

NYN | News

The humanitarian crisis in Yemen remains unresolved amid repeated warnings of worsening conditions. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has confirmed that over 19 million people in the country are in urgent need of basic assistance, including food, healthcare, shelter, and clean water.

According to a report by the UN Information Centre, nearly half of the population suffers from food insecurity, while many lack access to minimum levels of clean water, further deteriorating health and environmental conditions.

OCHA noted that women and children are bearing the brunt of this ongoing humanitarian catastrophe, as needs continue to rise and funding continues to fall. The 2025 Yemen Humanitarian Response Plan has received less than 7% of the required funding—just $173 million out of the $2.5 billion needed.

In the same context, UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric stated that humanitarian workers are facing major challenges, but relief teams were still able to reach around 8 million of the most vulnerable people over the past year and provide them with essential assistance.

Dujarric concluded by stressing that the number of people in need continues to rise, while the number of partners able to respond is decreasing. He emphasized that the need for funding and guaranteed access is more urgent than ever.
