Russia Turns the Tables: Houthis Are a Legitimate Party That Must Be Engaged in Dialogue

NYN | News

The Russian Foreign Ministry on Thursday condemned the U.S. attack on Yemen’s Ras Isa oil port, calling it completely unjustified and unacceptable, and stressed that the only path to stability in the country lies in inclusive dialogue among Yemeni factions—not through military escalation.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated at a press briefing: “We consider such actions unjustified and unacceptable,” emphasizing that Russia continues its efforts to normalize the situation in Yemen.

She added that achieving a lasting settlement in this war-torn country requires constructive negotiations based on compromise solutions that respect the legitimate interests of all political forces, including the Houthis (Ansar Allah).

Zakharova reaffirmed Moscow’s position that violence must be stopped immediately, calling on all concerned parties to exercise restraint and avoid any actions that could lead to further military escalation.

The Russian stance follows the U.S. assault on the Ras Isa port facility in Hudaydah province on the night of April 17, which resulted in the deaths of 80 workers and medics, and injuries to 150 others.

This strike is part of a series of U.S. attacks that Yemeni sources describe as targeting civilians and infrastructure in clear violation of international humanitarian law.
