Nuclear Strikes Trigger Waves of Condemnation: International Warnings of Dangerous Regional Escalation

NYN | News

The international stage is witnessing a sweeping wave of condemnation following U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan at dawn on Sunday, amid warnings of their grave implications for regional and global security.

The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized the need for a “transparent and objective” report from the Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, during the upcoming emergency session. Moscow called for a collective rejection of the escalating measures taken by the United States and Israel.

Russia warned that a dangerous cycle of escalation had already begun, posing a deeper threat to regional security. It described Washington’s decision to strike Iran as “irresponsible,” demanding a clear response from the UN Security Council.

China also strongly condemned the U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites, stating that they represented a grave violation of the sovereignty of a UN member state and a dangerous escalation threatening regional security and stability.

In a notable stance, Colombian Foreign Minister Laura Sarabia declared that “peace is not built with missiles,” urging a return to the language of dialogue.

Even countries previously seen as key critics of Iran expressed concern over the recent escalation. Saudi Arabia voiced “deep concern” over the rapidly unfolding developments, labeling the attack as a “violation of Iran’s sovereignty.”

In an official statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Riyadh reaffirmed its rejection of any actions infringing on the sovereignty of states, calling for “restraint and de-escalation to avoid further escalation.” It warned that worsening tensions at this critical juncture threaten the region’s security and stability.

The United Arab Emirates also expressed “deep concern over the continued tension and targeting of Iranian nuclear facilities,” calling for an “immediate halt to the escalation to avoid slipping into new levels of instability.” Abu Dhabi emphasized the importance of prioritizing diplomacy and dialogue through comprehensive approaches that ensure stability and justice.

In Baghdad, the Iraqi government condemned the U.S. attacks, describing them as “a serious escalation that threatens peace and security in the region and poses severe risks to regional stability.”

UN Secretary-General António Guterres also voiced “grave concern” over the use of force by the United States, calling it “a dangerous escalation in a region on the brink of explosion and a direct threat to international peace and security.”

He stressed that “the only way forward is through diplomacy,” warning that continued confrontation could lead to dire consequences for civilians, the region, and the entire world.

In Latin America, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil condemned the U.S. attacks, calling for an “immediate cessation of hostilities.”

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel strongly condemned what he described as a “dangerous escalation that violates the UN Charter and international law.”
