Red Alert from the Red Sea

NYN | News

The maritime threat level has been raised to its highest regarding vessels linked to the United States in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, according to a new assessment issued by the Information Center of the Combined Maritime Forces, which is overseen by the U.S. Navy.

The assessment classified the threat against U.S.-related commercial shipping as “high,” noting that the targeted vessels include those flying the American flag, or those owned, operated, or chartered by U.S. entities, as well as ships carrying American cargo.

Sanaa-based forces, through their military spokesperson Brigadier General Yahya Saree, announced that they would target American commercial and military vessels if Washington participates in any military action alongside Israel against Iran.

The maritime center recommended that U.S.-linked operators take immediate precautionary measures and consider rerouting to avoid potential danger zones.

It also noted that vessels not linked to the United States or Israel remain under a low threat classification.

These warnings came just hours after U.S. airstrikes on Iran began, marking the first publicly acknowledged direct involvement of Washington in the ongoing war between Tel Aviv and Tehran. This escalation threatens to turn the Red Sea into an open military front, potentially impacting vital global trade routes if the U.S. continues to fuel the conflict in the region.
