The Director of the Haifa Bay Municipal Association for Environmental Protection revealed in recent statements—reported by the Hebrew-language website Walla—a serious air pollution incident caused by a chemical leak from the Bazan oil facilities. This occurred following the recent Iranian missile strikes targeting key sites within Israeli territory.
According to the sources, the results of an unannounced environmental inspection conducted during the rehabilitation of the damaged facilities showed pollution levels exceeding the permitted limit by 100 times, indicating a potential environmental disaster in the region.
The environmental official stated that the Bazan facilities’ management claims—that the environment was not affected by the attack—are “completely detached from reality.” She called for the immediate evacuation of these facilities from Haifa Bay, stressing that warnings about such risks have been clear for years.
These developments highlight the environmental vulnerability of Israel’s industrial sites in the event of attacks and raise serious questions about the Israeli state’s readiness to deal with the environmental threats that accompany military operations.
