The United Nations Security Council is set to hold an open session on Wednesday, July 10, 2025, to discuss the latest developments in the Yemeni crisis. The session will be followed by closed-door consultations among member states, in a renewed effort to break the ongoing deadlock in the political settlement process.
UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, is scheduled to deliver a comprehensive briefing, alongside Tom Fletcher, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, and a representative of Yemeni civil society. The session will address both the political and humanitarian situations, and is expected to be one of the most sensitive meetings in the Council’s history concerning the Yemen file.
The session comes at a highly complex time, as the country remains locked in political paralysis amid growing warnings of an imminent humanitarian collapse, due to declining international funding for the humanitarian response plan and worsening economic conditions in several provinces.
According to informed diplomatic sources, Grundberg is expected to present the outcomes of his recent consultations with the Yemeni conflict parties and relevant regional actors, as well as the outlines of his plan to resume comprehensive negotiations and achieve a permanent ceasefire under the UN-sponsored roadmap.
