Tragedy Shakes Ibb Governorate Once Again

NYN | News

Four children lost their lives on Friday in Al-Hazm District, Ibb Governorate, after being swept away by torrential rainwater while they were in a nearby valley tending to sheep.

According to local sources, the children drowned in the stream of a valley in the Al-Sha’awur area due to a sudden flood caused by heavy rainfall that hit the region.

Residents were later able to recover the bodies, amid widespread grief and sorrow.

Ibb Governorate, along with several other parts of Yemen, has been experiencing a wave of seasonal rains in recent days, leading to flash floods and rising water levels in valleys and mountain ravines, especially in rural areas.

The incident has sparked calls from local residents and activists for urgent measures to reduce the risk of such drowning accidents. Proposed actions include awareness campaigns, stricter monitoring of hazardous areas, and the provision of public safety measures—especially as these tragic incidents continue to occur with each rainy season.
