A soldier was killed and four others from the Southern Transitional Council (STC) forces were injured following the explosion of an improvised explosive device (IED) that targeted their patrol in Mudiyah District, Abyan Governorate, in southeastern Yemen.
Local sources reported yesterday that the IED targeted a patrol belonging to the STC’s Sixth Support and Reinforcement Brigade on the main road in the Ormah junction area, east of Mudiyah.
According to the sources, the explosion resulted in the death of recruit Hani Ahmed Saeed and the injury of four members of the brigade. The incident adds to a series of repeated attacks in the governorate.
Abyan is witnessing escalating security tensions, as clashes continue between STC forces and Al-Qaeda amid ongoing instability in the region.
