The Saudi Minister of Defense informed his Iranian counterpart yesterday about the mutual defense treaty recently signed between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, handing over an official document outlining the key provisions and military-security areas of the agreement.
According to aligned Saudi and Iranian sources, Iran’s Ministry of Defense thanked the Saudi side for the briefing, expressing hope for the success of the alliance and affirming that mutual cooperation among Islamic nations is the only path to counter Israel and resist Western dominance.
For his part, Iranian Defense Minister Major General Aziz Nasirzadeh stated: “We will always support initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation among Islamic countries and unifying their positions in the face of shared challenges.”
Sources also reported that the Saudi defense minister reassured his Iranian counterpart that Riyadh has no intention of normalizing relations with Israel prior to the establishment of an independent and viable Palestinian state, emphasizing that any such agreement would depend on fulfilling the aspirations of the Palestinian people.
In response, Tehran welcomed the Saudi message but reiterated its call for adopting a firmer stance on the Palestinian issue—specifically advocating for the establishment of a single state “from the river to the sea,” which it views as the most just and realistic solution to confront the Israeli project.
Observers believe that this understanding between Riyadh and Tehran signals a new level of openness and rapprochement between the two regional powers amid rapid developments in the region, particularly concerning the Palestinian cause and the future of military alliances in the Islamic world.
