Reuters revealed in the past few hours that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has provided substantial financial support to Yemen’s internationally recognized government.
Citing a well-informed source, Reuters reported that Saudi Arabia will offer approximately 1.38 billion riyals (around $368 million USD) in economic assistance to the internationally recognized government based in Aden.
According to Saudi media, the aid package includes budget support for the Yemeni government, the provision of fuel derivatives, and operational funding for Prince Mohammed bin Salman Hospital in the governorate of Aden.
However, activists questioned why Saudi Arabia has not released Yemen’s oil revenues, reportedly deposited in a special account at the National Commercial Bank (NCB) in Jeddah, estimated at around $13 billion USD, or even a portion of it, instead of offering what they describe as limited economic aid worth 1.38 billion riyals ($368 million USD) — an amount they argue is insufficient and symbolic given Yemen’s dire economic situation.
