From Italy to Gaza: A New Flotilla Alarms Tel Aviv

NYN | News

Despite threats and challenges, humanitarian efforts to break the siege on Gaza continue, driven by popular will and international solidarity.

Freedom ships are once again setting sail, carrying doctors, journalists, and activists with a humanitarian message that says: “Enough with the blockade, enough with the silence.”

Huwaida Arraf, spokesperson for the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, confirmed that the flotilla is expected to reach the Gaza Strip on Friday, October 10.

In a statement to a Turkish news agency from aboard the ship “Al-Dameer” (The Conscience), Arraf said the crew remains on high alert in anticipation of any potential attack by Israeli occupation forces.

She described the flotilla as a group of civilian ships aiming to break Israel’s illegal blockade and confront the genocidal policies being carried out by Israel against Palestinians in Gaza.

Arraf noted that the ship carries a number of journalists and healthcare workers, stressing that the mission seeks to deliver a clear message to the world: “This situation must end.”

She added:
“We are sailing to say that the international community must act, impose sanctions on Israel, and send a message of solidarity to the people of Gaza — that they are not alone.”

Addressing the Palestinian people, she said: “We are on our way to you, and we will continue trying to reach you.”

Last Wednesday, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition announced the departure of the ship “Al-Dameer” from the port of Otranto, Italy, heading toward Gaza as part of a convoy of 11 ships carrying activists, doctors, and journalists. The flotilla is currently sailing in international waters, making its way toward the Gaza Strip.
