A responsible source at the Ministry of Defense of the Sanaa-based government has denied reports circulated by some media outlets alleging that Yemeni armed forces were involved in an incident targeting a ship in the Gulf of Aden.
In a statement to the Yemeni News Agency (SABA) this evening, the source affirmed that “the Yemeni armed forces have no connection to this incident,” calling on media outlets to verify their information and rely on official sources when reporting news.
Earlier this Saturday afternoon, flight-tracking platforms recorded intensive U.S. aerial activity over the Gulf of Aden, coinciding with reports of a mysterious attack on an oil tanker off Yemen’s southern coast.
Informed sources stated that American aircraft were flying in close proximity to the targeted vessel, which caught fire after the attack — raising questions about the nature of the U.S. aerial operation and whether it was merely for surveillance and reconnaissance or had a more direct role in the mysterious incident.
