The Forecast and Early Warning Center of the General Authority for Civil Aviation and Meteorology has predicted that the Socotra Archipelago will be affected by heavy rains and strong winds starting next Wednesday, due to the development of a low-pressure system over the southeastern Arabian Sea.
In a weather bulletin, the center explained that satellite imagery has shown the formation of a low-pressure area expected to move west-northwest and intensify in the coming hours. The center confirmed that technical teams are monitoring the tropical system around the clock.
The report indicated that during the next 24 hours, the weather will be partly to mostly cloudy over mountainous highlands, with scattered rain likely in the governorates of Socotra, Taiz, Ibb, Raymah, Hajjah, Al Mahwit, Al Hudaydah, and western parts of Dhamar and Saada. Rain may also extend to parts of Al-Dhalea, Lahj, and Abyan.
Similar weather conditions are expected along coastal areas, with active winds around Socotra and the Gulf of Aden, while desert regions are expected to remain relatively clear.
The center urged citizens and drivers to avoid crossing flood channels during rainfall and to be cautious of reduced visibility due to fog. It also advised the elderly and children to be aware of the effects of cold weather during the night and early morning hours in mountainous governorates.
