Aden Suffocates: Political Parties Speak Out as the Nasserists and Socialists Remain Absent

NYN | News

Political parties and organizations in Aden, Yemen’s temporary capital, have issued an urgent appeal to the local authorities, calling on them to assume full responsibility toward citizens and not remain passive observers amid the worsening living and service conditions in the city.

In a joint statement released today—notably absent of participation from the Socialist and Nasserist parties—the political forces urged the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to take immediate and decisive measures to end the suffering of residents. They emphasized the need for swift action to stabilize essential services, particularly electricity, water, and the payment of salaries.

The statement also underscored the importance of transcending narrow interests and working collectively to find both urgent and sustainable solutions to the escalating crises.

It noted that Aden has been witnessing a rapid collapse of vital services in recent days, amid deteriorating living conditions, rising prices, salary suspensions, and a complete halt in electricity and water services—a situation the political forces described as a “real catastrophe by every measure.”

The statement concluded with a direct call for accountability, urging authorities to hold those responsible for the decline to account and to act swiftly and effectively to rescue citizens through urgent and practical measures.
