A Call from the Heart of Riyadh: What is the Fate of Peace in Yemen?

NYN | News

The United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, affirmed on Wednesday that the ceasefire agreement in Gaza represents a positive step toward launching a comprehensive political process in Yemen and offers a promising opportunity to enhance regional stability.

This came in a statement issued by Grundberg following the conclusion of his visit to the Saudi capital, Riyadh, where he held a series of diplomatic meetings. These included discussions with the Saudi Ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed Al Jaber, the UAE Ambassador, Mohammed Al Zaabi, as well as ambassadors of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and other members of the international community.

Grundberg noted that the recently reached truce in Gaza opens the door to renewed efforts aimed at establishing peace in Yemen and creating a supportive environment for sustainable de-escalation—one that could move the political process forward.

The UN envoy stressed the importance of seizing this moment through coordinated regional and international efforts to ensure tangible progress toward peace and stability in Yemen and the wider region.
