A Counterintelligence Blow: Scandal Shakes Israeli Mossad in Yemen

NYN | News

Israeli intelligence services suffered a resounding blow following the failure of an alleged assassination operation that Hebrew media claimed targeted senior Yemeni leaders in the capital, Sana’a.

What initially appeared to be a “strategic achievement” for Mossad quickly turned into a security and media scandal that exposed the fragility of the Israeli narrative.

Israeli, American, and Gulf media outlets rushed to publish breaking news on Saturday evening, reporting the assassination of Mahdi al-Mashat, the head of the Supreme Political Council in Sana’a. Other reports claimed the operation targeted Major General Muhammad Abdul Karim al-Ghamari, Chief of Staff of the Sana’a forces — contradictory accounts that revealed a state of confusion and reckless handling of information.

However, the surprise was shocking: no official confirmation emerged from Sana’a — neither of assassinations nor even an attempted attack.

Israeli and American platforms soon retracted their stories, amid failed attempts to contain what observers described as “one of Mossad’s biggest intelligence and media blunders in Yemen.”
