In a controversial move, the president of the Southern Transitional Council and vice president of the Presidential Leadership Council formed by the coalition, Aidroos Qasim Al-Zubaidi, announced his readiness to protect international (Israeli) navigation in the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea, and the Gulf of Aden, pledging to stand alongside the United States and the international community, completely disregarding the ongoing humanitarian tragedy in Gaza caused by Israeli aggression. In a speech delivered in the Socotra Archipelago, according to the Saba News Agency affiliated with the Aden government, Al-Zubaidi confirmed his support for what he described as “efforts to combat piracy and terrorism,” clearly aligning with the American-Israeli narrative aimed at targeting any Yemeni action that interferes with ships heading to Tel Aviv, despite the fact that Sana’a’s naval operations aim to stop the war on Gaza, lift the siege, and allow humanitarian aid, including food and medicine, in line with international law’s humanitarian and ethical standards. Although the Presidential Council claims to adopt a national stance, its repeated declarations of commitment to protecting navigation directly serve Israel’s interests, as Israel benefits from the uninterrupted flow of ships through the Red Sea to the occupied ports without any pressure. Meanwhile, the Houthis (Ansar Allah) continue to enforce a new deterrence equation, considering pressure on the Israeli entity a humanitarian duty before being a political stance. With this statement, Al-Zubaidi and his council position themselves as direct allies of the United States and Israel, ignoring the widespread public anger over Israeli aggression on Gaza, at a time when popular demands for a real stance in support of the Palestinians are escalating, rather than aligning with U.S. policies.
