A Night Without Light: Aden Plunges into Darkness as Anger Erupts in the Streets

NYN | News

The Al-Mualla district in the interim capital, Aden, witnessed angry public protests on Monday evening following a complete shutdown of electricity across the city — one of the worst crises the governorate has faced in months.

Local sources reported that dozens of protesters set fire to used tires and blocked the ring road in Al-Mualla, expressing their frustration over the total power outage, which has worsened residents’ suffering amid a stifling heatwave.

Demonstrators called on local authorities and the government to urgently intervene to restart power generation stations and provide the necessary fuel to operate them. They also stressed the need for long-term solutions to the electricity crisis and the repeated blackouts that have severely impacted daily life.
