The Israeli occupation army launched aggressive airstrikes on Monday targeting the port of Hodeidah in western Yemen, marking a dangerous and provocative escalation.
According to sources in the Sanaa-based government, the strikes hit engineering equipment intended for the rehabilitation and reactivation of the port. This, the sources say, reflects a deliberate intention to obstruct reconstruction efforts in the province, which serves as Yemen’s main maritime lifeline, and constitutes a direct targeting of civilian infrastructure and the assets of the Yemeni people.
Meanwhile, The Times of Israel quoted Israeli military officials as saying the attack was carried out using drones rather than fighter jets—apparently in an effort to reduce the political and military costs of direct involvement in expanded operations outside Palestinian territories.
Israel’s Army Radio justified the attack by claiming that the same sites had been previously targeted in repeated strikes, as part of a continued pressure campaign on the Houthis (Ansar Allah) in response to their naval blockade against Israeli shipping in the Red Sea.
A spokesperson for the Israeli military acknowledged that the strike targeted engineering tools and equipment used in the rehabilitation of the port, clearly indicating that the goal was to hinder any efforts to restore operations at the vital port, which has been under siege and pressure for years.
