Airstrike on Hodeidah Port

NYN | News

The Israeli occupation forces launched aggressive airstrikes on Monday targeting the port of Hodeidah in western Yemen, in what has been described as a dangerous and provocative escalation.

According to sources in the Sanaa-based government, the strikes hit engineering equipment intended for the rehabilitation and operation of the port. This indicates a deliberate intention to obstruct any reconstruction efforts in the province, which serves as the country’s main maritime lifeline, and reflects a targeted attack on civilian infrastructure and the assets of the Yemeni people.

Meanwhile, The Times of Israel quoted Israeli military officials stating that the attack was carried out using drones rather than fighter jets—apparently in an attempt to reduce the political and military costs of direct involvement in expanded operations beyond the Palestinian territories.

Israel’s Army Radio justified the strike by claiming it targeted the same sites that had previously been hit multiple times, as part of an ongoing pressure strategy against the Houthis (Ansar Allah) over their blockade of Israeli maritime traffic in the Red Sea.

The Israeli military spokesperson acknowledged that the strike hit engineering tools and equipment used for the port’s rehabilitation, explicitly stating that the objective was to hinder any efforts to restore operations at this vital facility, which has faced siege and pressure for years.
