Airstrikes on Yemen Spark an Unexpected Crisis Among Allies… What’s the Story?

NYN | News

The British newspaper The Sun has revealed military cooperation between the United Kingdom and the United States in supporting U.S. airstrikes on Yemen, despite public criticism from U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, who accused Europe of “exploiting” American support.

The newspaper quoted a British source confirming that members of the Royal Air Force risked their lives to support the U.S. mission, noting that American aircraft using British fuel formed the first line of defense for the nuclear aircraft carrier.

Meanwhile, leaked messages on the Signal app exposed sharp criticism from Vice President Vance, who described the bombing of Yemen as “a rescue operation for Europe.” However, a British defense source dismissed these claims as “nonsense,” insisting that Washington carried out the attacks of its own accord, without European pressure, according to the newspaper.

The leaked messages also revealed that other U.S. officials, including Pete Hegseth, supported Vance’s criticism of Europe, highlighting potential tensions in transatlantic relations over Washington’s strategy in Yemen.
