Al-Azhar Al-Sharif has strongly condemned the Israeli aggression that targeted the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the early hours of Friday, describing the attack as a blatant violation of state sovereignty, a flagrant breach of international law, and a direct threat to regional and global peace and security.
In an official statement, Al-Azhar warned that the systematic brutality adopted by the Israeli occupation entity signals the potential eruption of new crises in the region, threatening to drag the Middle East into widespread chaos that endangers the stability and resources of its peoples. It stressed that Israel’s policies of arrogance, expansionism, and aggression reflect a dangerous strategy aimed at transforming the region into a perpetual battlefield.
Al-Azhar called on the international community, UN institutions, and all people of conscience around the world to shoulder their moral and humanitarian responsibilities in light of the escalating tensions in the Middle East. The statement urged serious action to stop Israel’s repeated violations, to uphold the sovereignty and safety of nations, to protect innocent lives, and to prevent the region from descending into chaos and war.
In a related development, the Muslim Council of Elders, chaired by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, also condemned the Israeli military targeting of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The council warned of the grave implications of this aggression on the security and stability of the region and the wider world.
The council emphasized the urgent need for the international community to assume its full responsibilities by taking swift measures to halt the escalation, prevent the expansion of the conflict, and support diplomatic efforts aimed at establishing the foundations of international peace and security.
