Indicators of the UAE’s role in fueling the Yemeni conflict are once again on the rise, as it is reportedly pushing for a ground operation against areas controlled by the Sanaa government, according to American reports.
The Wall Street Journal revealed that the UAE proposed to U.S. officials the idea of launching a ground operation to invade territories controlled by the Houthis (Ansar Allah) in Yemen, citing American and Yemeni officials.
The newspaper indicated that the United States is open to supporting a ground campaign aimed at toppling Houthi control, but no final decision has yet been made regarding participation or support.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has informed both Yemeni and American officials that it will neither join nor contribute to any ground operation inside Yemen, fearing potential damage from ballistic missiles and drones that the Houthis could launch in retaliation.
According to U.S. officials who spoke to the Wall Street Journal, discussions are focusing on carrying out the ground operation using local militias based in Aden, at a time when Washington is also considering scaling back its aerial operations in Yemen.
These moves come amid the Trump administration’s efforts to reopen international shipping lanes in the Red Sea to Israeli vessels, which have been subjected to a blockade imposed by the Houthis (Ansar Allah) in response to the genocide being committed by the Israeli entity in the Gaza Strip.
