Field Reports Reveal Resilience of Iran’s Home Front and Continuation of Services and Markets Despite U.S. Bombing

A correspondent for CNN in Tehran, journalist Fred Pleitgen, reported field observations from inside the Iranian capital indicating that daily life is continuing remarkably despite the airstrikes the country is facing amid escalating military tensions with the United States and Israel.

Signs of Damage but No Collapse of Public Life

Pleitgen explained in reports from inside Tehran that his tours through several neighborhoods revealed clear signs of bombardment, including damaged buildings and columns of black smoke rising from sites targeted by airstrikes, particularly fuel storage tanks.

He also noted the presence of security checkpoints across the capital’s streets as part of measures aimed at maintaining order and stability. At the same time, he emphasized that there were no signs of a collapse of authority or the outbreak of internal chaos.

Markets Open and Supplies Available

The American correspondent pointed out that markets in the Iranian capital continue to operate normally, with shops displaying various goods and food items, including fresh fruits and vegetables, without indications of severe shortages in supplies.

Gas stations also continue providing services to citizens without long queues or fuel crises, suggesting that supply chains remain functional despite strikes targeting some vital facilities.

Absence of Public Panic

Pleitgen added that what struck him most was the absence of widespread panic or fear among residents, as many Iranians continue their daily routines in a largely normal manner, even though explosions can sometimes be heard.

Solidarity Initiatives and Market Discounts

In the same context, a televised report broadcast by Al Araby TV showed that goods remain available and prices relatively stable in local markets, highlighting notable community solidarity initiatives.

According to the report, some stores have announced promotional offers and price discounts aimed at easing the burden on citizens and strengthening social solidarity during the exceptional circumstances the country is experiencing.

A Challenge to Washington’s Expectations

Analysts believe that the resilience of the domestic front and the continued functioning of essential services represent a challenge to expectations in Washington, D.C., which had anticipated rapid internal unrest as a result of strikes targeting vital and economic facilities.

Observers say the situation suggests that Iran has so far managed to absorb the initial shock of the airstrikes and maintain a minimum level of economic and social stability.
