A wave of angry popular protests has erupted in several governorates under the control of the Presidential Council backed by the Saudi-Emirati coalition.
Aden, Shabwa, and Hadramout have witnessed a sharp increase in demonstrations demanding the resignation of the Presidential Council and the government of Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, amid accusations of “collusion” with the ongoing catastrophic collapse of basic services and rising prices.
Hundreds of protesters took to the streets, turning main roads into protest zones after blocking them and setting tires on fire, in a scene reflecting growing public discontent due to power outages, soaring food prices, and the collapse of the local currency, which has lost more than 70% of its value over the past two years.
The protesters directly accused the Presidential Council and the government of “deliberate incompetence” in addressing the crises, considering their silence on the suffering of the citizens as proof of their full loyalty to the coalition’s policies at the expense of the Yemeni people.
It is worth noting that the southern governorates are witnessing a rapid deterioration in all aspects of life, prompting experts to warn that continued disregard for the people’s demands could ignite a widespread uprising that would redraw the map of the conflict in Yemen.
