The city of Taiz witnessed a wave of widespread protests on Wednesday morning, as hundreds of demonstrators marched through Jamal Street to denounce the deteriorating living conditions and public services in the governorate.
Protesters carried banners demanding improvements in basic services, the creation of job opportunities, and price reductions in line with the improvement of the rial’s exchange rate. They also called for an end to market manipulation by major importers.
Participants stressed that the ongoing living crises—foremost among them the severe water shortage—require urgent action to address the root causes of the economic collapse. They emphasized the need to dismiss and hold accountable corrupt officials within local government institutions.
These demonstrations come amid growing public anger over the continued decline in services and the lack of effective response from local authorities and the government to citizens’ demands, further fueling unrest in the streets.
