Angry Protests Turn into Chaos and Riots in the South

NYN | News

The city of Zinjibar, the capital of Abyan Governorate, witnessed angry protests on Tuesday morning, with hundreds of residents taking to the streets to denounce the deteriorating economic and public service conditions in areas controlled by the internationally recognized government.

The demonstrations escalated into chaos and riots, as some protesters smashed shopfronts, destroyed surveillance cameras, and pelted exchange offices with stones before security forces intervened to disperse the crowds and restore order.

In a similar context, the cities of Shibam and Seiyun in Hadhramaut Governorate also saw popular demonstrations in recent hours. Protesters raised slogans rejecting corruption and called for improvements in citizens’ living conditions, holding the Presidential Leadership Council and coalition countries—particularly Saudi Arabia and the UAE—responsible for the current situation.

Protesters also demanded accountability for corrupt officials and warned against any acts of repression targeting participants in these popular movements.
