Between Optimism and Caution: What Lies Behind the UN Envoy’s Office Visit to Sana’a?

The Deputy Foreign Minister of the Sana’a government, Abdulwahid Abu Ras, discussed with the Deputy Director of the UN Envoy’s Office, Mohammed Aboujehjeh, the outcomes of the UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg’s recent activities in several countries of the region and his meetings with the ambassadors of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council.

The meeting, held today (Thursday) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sana’a, was attended by the Deputy Director of the Envoy’s Office. The two sides reviewed the latest developments related to UN efforts to achieve peace in the country, according to the Saba News Agency affiliated with the Sana’a government.

During the meeting, Abu Ras delivered a letter addressed to Grundberg outlining the Sana’a government’s vision regarding the necessary steps to address the humanitarian situation and the expected role of the UN Envoy in this regard.

The Deputy Foreign Minister stressed the importance of Grundberg fulfilling his responsibilities in advancing the peace process and implementing the roadmap without delay, while prioritizing humanitarian obligations.

He further noted that the time has come to take serious steps and that there is no longer any justification for procrastination.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Abu Ras reaffirmed the Sana’a government’s support for the UN Envoy’s efforts, emphasizing its commitment to achieving a just, comprehensive, and sustainable peace that meets the aspirations of the Yemeni people.
