The British agency Reuters confirmed today, Monday, that an Israeli container ship was hit after being targeted by a number of missiles off the coastal district of Al-Makha in Yemen.
According to the agency, the British Maritime Trade Operations reported that a ship was notified on Monday of an explosion near it, 54 nautical miles northwest of the city of Al-Makha in Yemen. The ship suffered damage, but the vessel and its crew are safe and sailing to the next port.
Quoting the British maritime security company Ambrey, it stated: “A container ship flying the Maltese flag at the same location was targeted by three missiles while en route from Djibouti to the Saudi city of Jeddah.”
Since mid-October last year, the forces of the Sana’a government have been carrying out military operations against “Israel,” and they have prevented Israeli ships or those associated with it from crossing the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea. They stipulate that their operations will cease once “the aggression on Gaza is halted and the blockade is lifted,” as stated in the military statements announced by the spokesman for the Sana’a government forces, Yahya Saree, following the execution of any military operation.
In contrast, on February 19, 2024, the European Union announced the launch of a military operation named “Aspedis,” led by Italy in the Red Sea. The United States of America also announced the launch of an operation named “Guardian of Prosperity,” aimed at countering the attacks launched by the forces of the Sana’a government against “Israel,” in addition to the airstrikes carried out by the United States and Britain in Yemen. This prompted the forces of the Sana’a government to include American and British ships, whether commercial or military, in the circle of targeting and prevent them from crossing the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea.
