British Website: Targeting Iran Threatens the Region’s Existence as Netanyahu Seeks to Dismantle Arab States
David Hearst: The Battle over Iran Is No Longer an Internal Affair, but a Line of Defense for the Sovereignty of Arab Capitals Against the “Greater Israel” Project

David Hearst, Editor-in-Chief of the British website Middle East Eye, has warned that any attack led by Benjamin Netanyahu’s government against Iran would not be limited in its impact to Tehran alone, but would constitute a direct existential threat to the sovereignty and independence of all Arab states. This comes amid what he described as a profound shift in regional public awareness regarding the true nature of the conflict and the centers of power driving it.
A Shift in Arab Perceptions of Iran
Hearst stressed that the region is witnessing a fundamental transformation in perceptions of Iran, which is increasingly viewed by broad segments of Arab public opinion as a force defending the same values championed by Arab peoples—chief among them liberation from foreign domination and rejection of occupation.
Striking Iran: Netanyahu’s Last Gamble
The writer explained that Netanyahu’s resort to the option of striking Iran represents a “last card” following the failure of his projects in Yemen and several other regional arenas. The real objective, he argued, is the dismantling of Arab nation-states and the redrawing of the balance of power in a way that guarantees Israel’s supremacy as the sole dominant military force in the region.
Western Footprints in Destabilization
Hearst pointed out that the West, through its intelligence agencies—most notably the Mossad and the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency—no longer conceals its role in attempts to destabilize Iran by turning economic crises into armed uprisings. He noted that the same policy is being used, in his words, to subjugate Arab populations, as seen in the Gaza Strip.
A Comprehensive War and the Gulf in the Line of Fire
The Middle East Eye editor warned that targeting Iran’s leadership or seeking to destroy its economy could ignite a full-scale regional war, with Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states among the first to suffer the consequences. He emphasized that any escalation without careful calculation would endanger the security and stability of the entire region.
Rapprochement with Iran as a Defensive Necessity
Hearst concluded that what he described as an “Arab awakening” and the growing rapprochement with Iran is no longer merely a political option, but a defensive necessity in the face of the “Greater Israel” project, which—according to observers—aims to swallow Arab states and impose a state of comprehensive vulnerability across the region.
He added that history may record that defending Iran at this stage is, in effect, a defense of Mecca, Medina, Riyadh, Cairo, and the future of all Arab capitals.
