The commander of the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Eisenhower, Admiral Christopher Chudaha Hill, confirmed that U.S. aircraft carriers are no longer immune to the ballistic missiles and drones launched by Sanaa government forces.
Hill’s remarks came after a series of attacks targeting the U.S. carrier during its deployment in the Red Sea over the past few months, raising significant concerns within U.S. forces about the ongoing threats.
In an interview with YouTuber Ward Carroll, a former U.S. Navy officer, Hill stated: “We’ve been aware for some time that the era of safety for aircraft carriers has ended. The use of anti-ship ballistic missiles against our naval group for the first time was a new challenge for us.”
He added, “This challenge has forced us to reorganize crew schedules during their deployment in the Red Sea due to ongoing exhaustion and nighttime alerts.”
Hill noted that the increasing pressure has affected the crew’s morale, as drone and ballistic missile attacks have become a daily occurrence. He added, “We faced significant difficulties dealing with these drones and anti-ship missiles.”
Hill’s comments align with a report by the military website The Aviationist last week, which revealed that the USS Eisenhower had been subjected to a barrage of drone attacks, assault boats, and cruise missiles.
The report also highlighted that the carrier’s crew suffered severe fatigue due to repeated attacks from the Houthis, which required the group to resupply missiles from nearby stations after running out on the destroyers accompanying the carrier.
Additionally, the report noted that the German frigate Hessen faced a similar situation, depleting its arsenal in attempts to intercept the attacks in the Red Sea.
