Dangerous Situation in Hadhramaut and Difficult Hours for Its People

NYN | News

Field movements are escalating in eastern Yemen as large military reinforcements are being deployed toward Hadhramaut Province, in a step that reflects the growing tension among local forces there.

According to local sources, large convoys belonging to the Southern Transitional Council were seen in recent hours passing through several security checkpoints in Abyan Province on their way to Hadhramaut, amid a notable spread of military vehicles and armored carriers.

The sources estimated the number of vehicles at around 300, including transport buses and armored vehicles, moving consecutively without any official announcement regarding their destination or the mission for which they were deployed.

These developments come as Hadhramaut witnesses an unprecedented state of unrest, particularly following sharp statements made by Abu Ali Al-Hadhrami, commander of the UAE-backed Security Support Forces, against Sheikh Amr bin Habrish, head of the Saudi-backed Hadhramaut Tribes Alliance. Bin Habrish is leading a wide-ranging movement demanding that the people of the province be empowered to manage its affairs and benefit from its resources.

Amid this tension, Sheikh Amr bin Habrish Al-Alee invited Hadhramaut’s leaders and tribal elders to a broad consultative meeting to be held next Thursday in the Al-Aleeb area, to discuss the rapid developments and determine the tribal position regarding events that Alliance leaders consider a threat to the security and stability of the province.

The media office of the Hadhramaut Tribes Alliance confirmed that the invitation is directed to the province’s dignitaries, sheikhs, and notables to consult on the coming phase and take necessary steps to protect Hadhramaut’s interests.

Meanwhile, Abu Ali Al-Hadhrami escalated his rhetoric during his recent appearance in a tribal meeting with the “Tha’een” tribes, where he attacked bin Habrish and accused him of forming armed groups to cut roads and smuggle drugs. He asserted that his forces represent “the Army of the Arab South” and that “the Hadhrami Elite Forces are part of the armed forces of the Arab South,” adding that he would not allow—according to his words—any parallel force operating outside central control.
