US Navy officers reported that dozens of them have suffered psychological and mental shocks due to the attacks carried out by the Sanaa government’s forces in the Red Sea.
Bradley Staley, an officer in the medical team of the US aircraft carrier “Eisenhower,” spoke about the mental health toll they have experienced during their deployment in the Red Sea, coinciding with the escalation of Yemeni operations.
The site “USNI News,” specializing in naval affairs, reported that 80 sailors from the “Eisenhower” suffered from mental health problems during their deployment in the Red Sea.
Since late last year, Sanaa government forces have begun targeting Israeli sites in the occupied Palestinian territories and attacking Israeli ships and their affiliates in the Red and Arabian Seas, before announcing the extension of their operations to parts of the Indian Ocean. Recently, they announced the start of the fourth phase of escalation against ships “even in the Mediterranean” to support Palestinians in Gaza. They assert that their operations against “Israel” will continue, stipulating “ending the aggression and lifting the blockade on Gaza” to halt their military operations “in support of Gaza.”
In response, the US and the UK launched airstrikes on Yemen, prompting the Sanaa government forces to announce that their operations would include targeting US and UK commercial and military ships in retaliation for what they termed the “US-UK aggression.”
On February 19, 2024, the European Union announced the launch of a military operation called “Aspides,” led by Italy in the Red Sea, while the United States announced the launch of an operation named “Guardian of Prosperity,” both aiming to counter the attacks carried out by Sanaa government forces against “Israel.”
