Hadhramaut Governorate is experiencing mounting turmoil after the valley’s power grid went almost completely offline on Sunday evening, coinciding with the security tensions the governorate has been witnessing for days.
Sources at the Hadhramaut Valley Electricity Corporation confirmed that the gas-fired stations in PetroMasila and Al-Jazira stopped operating after gas supplies from PetroMasila Company were cut off. This resulted in the loss of more than 85% of generation capacity and left most areas of the valley without electricity.
The corporation explained that technical teams are on full standby to resume operations as soon as gas arrives and the necessary supplies are restored. It called on citizens to understand the emergency situation and praised their patience and cooperation.
The outage coincided with a major escalation by the Southern Transitional Council, which sent military reinforcements to the governorate, while the Tribal Alliance seized PetroMasila Company in response to those moves.
Current indicators suggest that Hadhramaut may be heading into a more complex phase that could open the door to a new round of violence unless decisive solutions are introduced to prevent the governorate from sliding into conflict.
