Informed sources confirmed that U.S. military aircraft have continued to be observed flying over the airspace of Al-Dhalea governorate, in addition to the areas of Yafa’a and Radfan, for the first time since the recent events and developments witnessed in southern Yemen.
A new type of U.S. aircraft
The sources told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed newspaper that a new type of military aircraft has been observed in recent days, believed to be the P-8 Poseidon—an advanced reconnaissance and surveillance aircraft belonging to the U.S. Navy, used for intelligence monitoring and information-gathering missions.
Intensified surveillance in southern governorates
The sources linked the increased frequency of U.S. aircraft flights over the skies of several southern governorates to a broader context of intensified monitoring and reconnaissance activities, against the backdrop of escalating tensions and rapid developments among the parties of the Saudi-Emirati coalition and their local proxies in southern Yemen.
Indicators of U.S. coordination with the coalition
In this context, the sources pointed to a post by Massad Boulos, Senior Adviser to the U.S. President for Arab and Middle Eastern Affairs, on his account on the “X” platform, in which he affirmed the existence of a shared objective between Washington and the Riyadh–Abu Dhabi coalition in Yemen—an indication that observers consider evidence of growing political and security coordination during the current phase.
