Israel continues its military escalation in Yemen by launching new airstrikes on the capital, Sana’a—an action observers view as an attempt to deflect from its failure to gain international support for its practices.
Local sources reported on Thursday afternoon that the strikes targeted residential neighborhoods and civilian facilities in the city, resulting in civilian casualties, including martyrs and injured. However, the final toll has yet to be officially announced.
The explosions were concentrated near power stations and several vital public service facilities.
Sources in Sana’a confirmed that the airstrikes hit markets, homes, and electricity stations in the neighborhoods of Al-Ruqas, Al-Rabat, Bab Al-Yemen, and the Ring Road, causing extensive damage to both private and public property.
The Civil Defense Department in Sana’a stated that its teams rushed to the targeted sites to carry out humanitarian rescue operations and extract victims from under the rubble. It confirmed that the attacks struck “civilian facilities and protected civilian objects in violation of international humanitarian law.”
On the other hand, Hebrew-language media, including the website Hadshot Lo Tzansura, reported that Sana’a forces’ air defenses opened fire at the Israeli aircraft during the attack.
Analysts believe that targeting infrastructure and power stations in Sana’a falls within a strategy of military pressure, at a time when international criticism of Israeli operations in the region is growing—amid increasing fears of a wider confrontation.
