“For their silence on Gaza genocide crimes… Global and Arab campaign to boycott celebrities”

NYN | News

“Block Them Out 2024” (#BLOCKOUT2024) is a campaign launched by social media influencers worldwide to boycott celebrities who remain silent about the genocide war Israel is waging on Gaza.

Thousands of activists and bloggers participated in the campaign across various social media platforms to demonstrate their ability to influence the earnings of celebrities through followers and views. The campaign specifically targeted celebrities who endorse companies supporting Israel despite boycott campaigns.

Indeed, foreign accounts posted videos showing a decline in followers on the accounts of celebrities whose profiles were shared for boycott by activists.

Interactors described the campaign as the largest worldwide to boycott celebrities and influencers who refused to use their platforms to support Gaza and the Palestinian people. They pointed out that it didn’t stop at unfollowing, but evolved, with a massive ban on accounts and a significant decrease in followers.

The echo of this campaign spread among social media users in the Arab world, with bloggers engaging with the hashtags. They began encouraging people to participate in the campaign by saying: “What do you think of joining the campaign and starting now by unfollowing anyone you see as neglectful towards Gaza, which is facing genocide, or supporting the occupation at the expense of the innocent?” They urged the campaign’s spread.

One of the tweeters posed a question: “Did you know that celebrities are paid to support the genocide in Gaza, and some of them fund it?! We urge active participation in the #blockout2024 campaign, let’s boycott all accounts that support the Israeli enemy on all social media platforms.”

Other bloggers pointed out that the boycott is not just about products, but it should also target celebrities and influencers who have not spoken about Gaza.

However, there is another question raised: Why don’t we start a boycott campaign for Arab celebrities who haven’t supported Gaza like foreigners did?

In response to this question, the “Jordan Flood for Gaza Support” account on the X platform said, “We are more deserving of boycotting Arab celebrities who advertise boycotted products. A campaign to boycott celebrities who have not taken a humanitarian stance towards Gaza will extend to include Arab celebrities and influencers.”

Activists said that more than 200 days of destruction, killing, and genocide of over two million people besieged in Gaza were enough to prompt celebrities and influencers to take a positive stance and pressure official authorities to stop the suffering, or at least speak about it to raise awareness. However, they chose silence and indifference, so the “Block Them Out” campaign was launched.

One of the tweeters called for creating a list of celebrities and content creators in the Arab world who have not supported the Palestinian cause or condemned the Israeli genocide war on Gaza, to be shared on social media platforms so that people can block them from their accounts.
