Hadhramaut Declares Separation from the Presidential Council

The province of Hadhramaut witnessed a significant gathering on Saturday, convened by the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance under the leadership of prominent tribal figure Amr bin Habrish, who is known for his close ties to Riyadh. The meeting marked a new escalation in demands for self-governance, amid evident divisions among the region’s political and social components.

In the final statement issued after the meeting, held in the Hadhramaut plateau, the alliance reaffirmed its full commitment to the option of self-rule, describing it as an urgent necessity and a popular will that cannot be reversed.

The statement called on regional and international actors—chiefly Saudi Arabia—to swiftly respond to the demands of the people of Hadhramaut and take tangible steps toward implementing this vision.

It also firmly rejected any return to what it described as dominance by other parties—an implicit reference to the political and administrative power struggles within the Saudi-UAE-backed Presidential Council.

The alliance announced its full support for the formation of a local security force composed of Hadhramaut residents, calling for the opening of recruitment to protect the region’s security and maintain stability, asserting a legitimate right to “defend Hadhramaut.”

The demands also included an urgent call to provide at least 500 megawatts of electricity, in light of the worsening power outages that have severely affected daily life and basic services.

The Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance concluded its statement by affirming its readiness to escalate on the ground through all legitimate means until the goal of self-governance and other rights for the people of Hadhramaut are achieved. It described the coming stage as “decisive” in determining the future of the province.

These developments come amid rising political tensions in the southern provinces and growing calls to reassess the structure of authority and the distribution of resources.
