Hadramout on the Brink of Explosion… Tribal Decisions Suddenly Upend the Scene

NYN | News

Hadramout is heading toward one of its most sensitive moments of tension, after the tribal gathering on the plateau approved an unprecedented series of escalatory measures, including granting full authorization to the Hadramout Protection Forces to deal with any incoming forces to the governorate as a “foreign invading force” that must be deterred and expelled by force.

The final statement of the tribal meeting, held on Thursday, affirmed that any military presence from outside Hadramout constitutes an occupation that will be treated as a direct threat to the stability of the governorate. It issued an urgent call for Saudi Arabia to intervene and halt what it described as a “reckless adventure” before reaching the point of explosion.

The statement also announced a state of full alert and called on military and tribal units to deploy across the plateau and the eastern borders, while forming a unified operations room to coordinate all movements under the leadership of the Hadramout Protection Forces.

In a speech before the gathered tribesmen, Sheikh Amr bin Habrish Al-Ali, head of the Hadramout Tribes Alliance, revealed the formation of a local resistance from the governorate’s tribes to confront elements of the Southern Transitional Council coming from outside Hadramout.

He called on the Hadrami Elite Forces to join the resistance and to refrain from covering for any forces stationed inside their camps, affirming that Hadramout “will not be violated,” and that any force impersonating the Elite Forces or operating under any other name will be treated as an aggressor.

Bin Habrish also declared his support for the Saudi-led coalition insofar as it serves the interests of Hadramout, adding: “But for individuals to come from other governorates—this we will not accept. And if the coalition has not put an end to this over the past years, then we, the people of Hadramout, will.”

This escalation comes as the first outcome of the large tribal gathering held on the plateau, amid accusations that the Transitional Council is seeking to impose a new reality in Hadramout under the guise of celebrating Independence Day on November 30.
