Hebrew Analysis: Iran Shows No Sign of Retreat in the War… Trump Racing Against Time to Exit “With a Victory Narrative”

Israeli writer warns of a widening gap between Washington and Tel Aviv over the definition of victory, saying rising oil prices and American opposition to the war are increasing pressure on the White House

An analysis published by the Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth has revealed growing concern within Israeli circles over the course of the war with Iran, citing what it described as the absence of any signs of Iranian retreat, while the U.S. administration led by Donald Trump faces mounting pressure.

Israeli writer and analyst Eldad Shavit said there is a clear divergence between the United States and Israel regarding the definition of “victory” in the war. He noted that Washington is seeking to market a quick military achievement that would allow it to end the confrontation, while Tel Aviv believes that battlefield results remain far from achieving its strategic objectives.

Gap Between the U.S. Narrative and the Reality on the Ground

Shavit explained that the positive image the White House is trying to promote regarding “military successes” does not necessarily reflect the reality on the ground. He noted that the Trump administration is attempting to replicate the pressure model previously used by Washington against Venezuela in an effort to weaken the ruling system.

However, according to the analysis, intelligence assessments indicate that the **Iran**ian system possesses a cohesive political and security structure along with strong continuity mechanisms, making any bet on its collapse or rapid retreat uncertain.

Energy Crisis Pressures Washington

Economically, the analysis pointed out that one of the most dangerous developments worrying the U.S. administration is the sharp rise in oil prices, driven by disruptions to navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and damage to some production capacities in the region.

It added that these developments help explain dissatisfaction in Washington with some Israeli strikes targeting Iranian energy facilities, amid fears that such actions could trigger a global energy shock that would directly impact the U.S. economy and turn into a domestic political crisis.

Growing Public Pressure Inside the United States

Domestically, the analysis noted that recent opinion polls show that about 56% of Americans oppose any direct military intervention against Iran, placing the Trump administration under increasing political pressure to seek a rapid exit from the war before it turns into a long and costly conflict.

A “Decisive Window” Within a Week

Shavit concluded his analysis by warning that the coming week could represent a decisive “window of resolution” for the course of the war, explaining that Washington’s options have become limited.

Either Donald Trump manages to present a dramatic achievement allowing him to promote a “quick victory” narrative and exit the confrontation while saving face, or time will begin to work against American and Israeli interests—potentially turning the war into a heavy political and strategic burden and deepening the isolation of the alliance led by Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
