Irregular migration toward Yemen’s coasts continues, amid a noticeable increase in smuggling boat activity arriving from the Horn of Africa in recent weeks.
In the latest incident, security sources in Yemen’s internationally recognized government announced the arrival of 255 African migrants on the shores of Shabwah Governorate, following an illegal sea voyage.
This comes after the arrival of nearly 1,000 migrants last month, reflecting a striking surge in the number of new arrivals.
According to the Security Media Center of the Ministry of Interior, the migrants landed in the Kaidah area of Rudum District, noting that most of them were **Ethiopian nationals—208 in total, including 44 women—**while 47 were Somali nationals, including two women.
The statement confirmed that security forces had taken all available legal measures within their capacity, noting that Shabwah authorities had recorded 948 illegal migrants arriving through four separate smuggling trips in October.
Yemen’s eastern and southern coasts have witnessed a growing influx of migrants, despite the country’s ongoing security and economic challenges, as sea smuggling operations from the Horn of Africa persist in search of better opportunities—or routes toward other countries in the region.
