Intense Aerial Activity Over Yemeni Skies — What’s the Objective?

NYN | News

The United States and the United Kingdom resumed their reconnaissance flights over Yemeni airspace on Saturday, amid rising regional tensions.

Flight-tracking websites showed heavy activity by U.S. and British spy aircraft along Yemen’s territorial waters.

Several types of aircraft were detected, most notably the U.S. MQ-4 and P-8A Poseidon, as well as the British RC-135W Rivet Joint.

All the aircraft reportedly took off from bases in the UAE and Qatar, following multiple flight paths — some heading toward eastern Yemeni territory, and others focusing on maritime areas stretching from the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Aden all the way to the Red Sea.

These flight patterns suggest possible surveillance of maritime routes or an attempt to avoid detection by Yemeni air defenses and radar systems.

The United States and the United Kingdom have long conducted similar intelligence flights over Yemen, particularly after the failure of their joint military campaign to protect Israel from Yemeni attacks in support of Gaza, a campaign that lasted nearly two years.
