The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor on Friday condemned the Israeli airstrike that targeted a media center in the Al-Tahrir neighborhood in central Sana’a on September 10. The attack left 31 people dead, including journalists and a child, injured 22 others, and caused extensive damage to the building, nearby homes, and the National Museum.
In a statement released last night, the Monitor stated that the airstrike hit the offices of the 26 September and Al-Yemennewspapers, describing the attack as a blatant violation of international law and part of a systematic Israeli policy to silence independent media in the region.
The statement stressed that claims of the building being used for military purposes do not justify the targeting, as journalists are granted special protection under international humanitarian law. It emphasized that the attack lacked the principles of proportionality and necessity, constituting a serious and unjustifiable crime.
The Monitor called on the international community to take immediate action by imposing comprehensive sanctions on Israel, activating international accountability mechanisms, and halting all forms of political and military support provided to it.
